Is reducing new particle formation a plausible solution to mitigate particulate air pollution in Beijing and other Chinese megacities?

چکیده

Based on our comprehensive observations in Beijing, we show that 80–90% of PM2.5 was formed via atmospheric reactions during haze days and over 65% the number concentration particles resulted from new particle formation.

Biologically plausible particulate air pollution mortality concentration-response functions.

In this article I introduce an alternative method for estimating particulate air pollution mortality concentration-response functions. This method constrains the particulate air pollution mortality concentration-response function to be biologically plausible--that is, a non-decreasing function of the particulate air pollution concentration. Using time-series data from Cook County, Illinois, the...

Relationships between submicrometer particulate air pollution and air mass history in Beijing , China , 2004 – 2006

The Chinese capital Beijing is one of the global megacities where the effects of rapid economic growth have led to complex air pollution problems that are not well understood. In this study, ambient particle number size distributions in Beijing between 2004 and 2006 are analysed as a function of regional meteorological transport. An essential result is that the particle size distribution in Bei...

Particulate Air Pollution Exposure and Expression of Viral and Human MicroRNAs in Blood: The Beijing Truck Driver Air Pollution Study

BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are post-transcriptional gene suppressors and potential mediators of environmental effects. In addition to human miRNAs, viral miRNAs expressed from latent viral sequences are detectable in human cells. OBJECTIVE In a highly exposed population in Beijing, China, we evaluated the associations of particulate air pollution exposure on blood miRNA profiles. METHODS...
